I So Don’t Do Mysteries, by Barrie Summy

I so don’t do mysteries, thinks Sherry, confirmed lip-gloss addict and make-up lover. She definitely didn’t choose the sleuth life. But the sleuth life chose her.

Let’s start in the beginning. Sherry’s life is pretty great. Of course, there are a few snags (like her Dad marrying her stringent teacher- The Ruler), but overall, things are pretty smooth. Except for the fact that she’s missing her mom. But when Sherry’s mom pays her a sudden visit, she is more shocked than anything else. That’s because her mother has been dead for years.

Her mother has passed into the afterlife for ghosts, which involves an Academy of Spirits (complete with grades and report cards). And if she doesn’t solve the mystery that’s been assigned to her, she’ll flunk. For the first time in their relationship, Sherry’s mom needs her help.

This is a great book if you’re looking for a mystery with a different edge. It’s defintely not your book if you want a logical mystery with puzzle pieces that eventually fit. On the other hand, if you want a fun, giggly book with both, a satisfying mystery AND a teenage main character, look no further.
